Extraction process:

The "deg and still" distillation method, or "deg bhapka" method, is a traditional process for extracting essential oils, specifically used in Kannauj, India, to create perfumes and attars. It involves heating a mixture of flowers and water in a copper still (the "deg"), condensing the fragrant steam in a separate copper vessel ("bhapka"), and collecting the resulting liquid containing the essential oils.

The Process:

• A fire is lit and the "deg" is heated, causing the water to boil and produce steam. 
• As the steam rises, it carries the volatile fragrant compounds (essential oils) from the flowers. 
• The steam is channeled through a bamboo pipe (chonga) to the "bhapka" where it condenses into a liquid. 
• This liquid, containing the essential oils, is then collected and used to create perfumes or attars.
• The essential oil will settle at the top which will be then separated to yield this hydrosol
